\"\"<\/a>The following poem was shared by Rhona Bhuyan, an InterChange member and a teacher currently working at the \u00a0Khartoum American School in\u00a0Sudan. \u00a0The poem was written by two Grade 10 students and was inspired by one of the stories by John Paul Lederach in his book The Moral Imagination: The Art and Soul of Building Peace<\/span>.<\/p>\n

\n

Let there be Peace<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The hot wind blew<\/p>\n

Shuddered the small shacks of Western Africa<\/p>\n

Slowly, the Ghanaians watched as the world collapsed around them<\/p>\n

Liberia spilt refugees into their borders<\/p>\n

Sierra Leone was a chaotic land of bloodshed<\/p>\n

And Ghana was well on its way to another civil war<\/p>\n

Two tribes<\/p>\n

At a feud since the beginning of time<\/p>\n

A bitter history, the division remain<\/p>\n

One saw themselves superior<\/p>\n

For they had a chief<\/p>\n

They had power, they had wealth<\/p>\n

It started with a small dispute<\/p>\n

A mere misunderstanding<\/p>\n

But war is a flame, even the smallest spark can burn a forest<\/p>\n

Peace talks were arranged<\/p>\n

The chief of the superior tribe arrived<\/p>\n

Spitting insults, furious that only a young man from the small tribe came to negotiate<\/p>\n

The young man stood, nodded<\/p>\n

When it was his time to speak<\/p>\n

\u201cFather\u201d he said with the upmost respect, \u201cyou are perfectly right\u201d<\/p>\n

His humility caused the chief to pause and work for peace<\/p>\n

There is much to learn from this young man\u2019s wisdom<\/p>\n

In order to achieve the dream of peace<\/p>\n

We must stand United<\/p>\n

For we are a community<\/p>\n

Let there be diversity<\/p>\n

To avoid adversity<\/p>\n

To you we present the truth<\/p>\n

Let us return to our youth<\/p>\n

We seek to achieve our dream<\/p>\n

That one day there shall be peace<\/p>\n

Let our minds overflow with solutions<\/p>\n

Lets take it one step at a time<\/p>\n

Embracing, tolerating and celebrating our differences<\/p>\n
